Born as Frankie L. Collins, but passionately known as Coach Collins, he began his coaching career in September 1973 at Lake Providence Senior High School in Lake Providence, Louisiana. He served as the running back coach until 1978 when his hard work and dedication afforded him the opportunity to become the head football coach. He remained dutiful to the role until his retirement in 1996.
In 1998, Coach Collins began his career in Sacramento, California, serving as the running back coach at Burbank High and Del Campo High School. By 2010, he was the running back coach for the four-time world champion Sacramento Sirens. From 2010–2013, he helped lead the team to two world championships in women’s professional football.
One of his most treasured accomplishments was becoming the running back coach for the annual Pig Bowl, now known as Guns and Hoses. Over his 47 years of coaching, he was blessed to be part of this game for 21 years. Guns and Hoses was dear to his heart because it supports the families of fallen officers and local charities. The players and coaching staff became like family to him, and he was forever grateful to God for this organization and opportunity.
In 2020, Coach Collins was inducted into the Pig Bowl/ Guns and Hoses Hall of Fame. He is fondly remembered for his saying, “Write it down!”
